Training for Youth Serving Professionals
- All workshops are from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm at our Center City location and include Continental breakfast and lunch.
- In addition to reasonable fees, we offer discounts for multiple services, group rates and limited scholarships for open-enrollment participants.
- Act 48 and PQAS credits are available for all courses in this program.

Sexuality & Young Children: Positive Messages for a Health Future October 22, 2009 This training will help you understand the stages of normal sexual development; use teachable moments to give age-appropriate, healthy messages about sexuality to children ages 0-8; examine your values around sexuality and the implications of those values in working with young children; and explore strategies for dealing with difficult sexuality-related issues. |
Sexuality & Preadolescents: Facilitating, Responding, Teaching October 8 & 9, 2009 This training will help you facilitate sexuality education programs and activities with youth ages 9-12, communicate better with young people and answer their questions about sexuality. All participants will receive a copy of PPSP’s Steps Toward Adolescence curriculum. |
Sexuality Program for the Deaf
Sign Language proficiency is required for all of the following courses.

Signing for Sexuality for Interpreters of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing August 7 & 8, 2009 Do you know what skin hunger, attraction template, and the sexual response cycle are? Do you know the signs for the genitals, transgender, sexual assault (and more!)? This workshop will provide Deaf and hearing interpreters the opportunity to increase knowledge of sexuality signs, explore comfort with interpreting sexuality situations and apply learning to skill development. In addition, time will also be devoted to discussing how to interpreter for domestic violence and sexual abuse related situations. It’s an interactive workshop where interpreters can get a lot of information in a safe way. |
Contraceptive Update for Interpreters of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing October 10, 2009 Do you know about Essure, the IUS, and Fem Cap? If not, come and join us! This workshop will help Deaf and hearing interpreters increase knowledge, comfort and skill with interpreting information about contraceptive/birth control methods. |
Sexuality Update: Getting the Recent Facts October 23, 2009 This workshop is for professionals who work with the Deaf and hard of hearing communities and have experience teaching and discussing sexuality related topics. The time will be spent providing up-to-date, cutting edge information on contraception, sexually transmitted infections, and other sexual health topics. Professionals will have the opportunity to ask questions and determine ways to best present information to students and clients. |
Sexuality 101: Examining Comfort and Knowledge October 26, 2009 This workshop is for professionals who work with the Deaf and hard of hearing communities. It will cover defining sexuality, sexual development, comfort with sexuality, dealing with sensitive issues, and answering tough questions. It is an interactive workshop that will provide participants with up-to-date facts. |
Sexuality and Your Consumer: Providing Competent Care November 13, 2009 This workshop is for professionals who provide services to deaf and hard of hearing adults with additional disabilities. This training will give you the opportunity to get up-to-date facts on sexuality-related information; identify sensitive situations and use an intervention model to help manage them; explore boundaries with sexuality and how to set appropriate limits with consumers; practice answering questions and managing sexuality-related comments consumers may make; and discuss and display resources for communicating messages and for working with consumers. |
STEPS for the Deaf: Facilitating, Responding, Teaching December 3 & 4, 2009 This workshop will help educators working with the Deaf and hard of hearing to increase knowledge, comfort and skill with implementing sexuality education with youth ages 9-13. All participants will receive a copy of PPSP’s Steps for the Deaf curriculum. |
STD Update for Interpreters of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing January 30, 2010 Do you know what LGV, Molluscum and Chancroid are? What about the latest on Human Papilloma Virus? This workshop will help Deaf and hearing interpreters increase knowledge, comfort and skill with interpreting about sexually transmitted diseases. |
Deaf Teen Times: Facilitating, Responding, Teaching February 11 & 12, 2010 This workshop will help educators working with the Deaf and hard of hearing to increase knowledge, comfort and skill with implementing sexuality education into the high school classroom. All participants will receive a copy of PPSP’s Deaf Teen Times curriculum. |

June 25 & 26, 2010 This workshop will provide Deaf and hearing interpreters the opportunity to examine HIV/AIDS information, issues and interpreting skills. It is a serious topic covered in a fun way. |
